Getting to know your host: Jennifer Boggett

When did you catch the travel bug?

Travel has always been a part of my life as my parents immigrated from England and we returned to England and Scotland often to visit family. My first big adventure was when I was 12. We lived on a sailboat for a year, travelling from Thunder Bay, ON to the Bahamas.

Where was a recent trip you took?

What’s your favourite photo from that trip?

Woman in Guatemala

Canon or Nikon?

What’s your favourite travel lens?

70-300mm. I love the freedom of capturing a scene without being right in the middle of it.

What else is in your camera bag?

I love my 85 1.8 and my 35 2.0.

Do you bring a tripod when you travel?

I travel super light so I usually leave my tripod at home. However, I’m about to take a course on night sky photography so I have a feeling my tripod will be making more trips with me 🙂

What are your best tips for travelling with photography equipment?

Take as little as you can and make sure you have a comfortable bag for carrying your gear.

Other than your passport and camera, what won’t you leave home without when you travel?

A notebook to record memories, contacts, suggestions from locals etc… (and a collapsable water bottle)!

What is your favourite genre of photography and why?

I love street/candid photography, especially capturing people doing their thing in their environment. I try my best to capture spontaneous moments while respecting the subject’s desire to be photographed or not.

What’s the best part about hosting a photo tour?

Meeting new people and working with other creatives to capture what we envision. I get excited to teach little tidbits of information I’ve learned over the years and I love being inspired by other photographers.
