Sri Lanka Photo Tour Blog – Day 1

Sri Lanka, the teardrop-shaped island south of India, is a popular tourist destination for Europeans and Chinese but it feels like it’s still under the radar for North Americans. I’m sure the distance is one factor but I’ve been very pleased with Qatar Airways’ long haul flights – and their prices. Hopefully, more Canadians will consider this incredible place as a destination.

Our first day in Colombo was spent very leisurely catching our breaths and try to get over our jet lag. Our hotel – the OZO – has a beautiful rooftop bar and infinity pool so we met our driver there to go over our itinerary for the next 10 days and then he took us on a drive around the city. We stopped at one of the oldest hotels – Galle Face Hotel – then made our way past other colonial-era buildings, Hindu and Buddhist temples before checking out an ex-pat favourite – the Barefoot Cafe – for a tasty lunch. Back at the hotel we relaxed by the pool, enjoyed the great views of the city and watched the sunset. We are now rested and looking forward to the rest of the tour! Check back in to see updates!
