We left Avignon bright and early and made our way to Pont du Gard. An incredible ancient Roman aquaduct that is the highest and one of the best preserved of all elevated aquaducts. Afterwards, we sweet-talked our driver to drive along country roads looking for a poppy field that we could photograph. We found a lovely spot where there was a fruit stand so we also got to buy some fresh cherries while some of us got creative. We then made our way to our final stop – Marseille. Our hotel was close to the old port so we walked around and even hopped on a small tourist train that took us up to the beautiful Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde Basilica. From the top we had a great view of the city, nestled between mountains and the Mediterranean. We had a last meal as a group since two had early flights the next day while a few of us extended our stay.
