A few of us extended our trip by a day or two in Marseille before heading home. After breakfast, we decided to ride the big Ferris Wheel and get a different perspective of the city. We then booked a cruise to visit the “Calanques” (inlets) along the coast between Marseille and the next town east, Cassis. The rock formations were incredible! I can see why this national park is so popular with sailors, beach lovers, hikers and rock climbers! The boat also went past the Frioul Island where the Château d’If still stands – made famous in the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It was a fortress turned into a prison but is now a museum.
Spending the day on the water was such a great way to end this trip! Thanks to our guest Tammy for sharing some of her photos of the amazing sunset on her last night in Marseille! Looking forward to our next adventure!
